Happy New Year, Fun Pickleball friends!
I love New Year’s resolutions because they inspire me to be a better version of myself. I truly believe everyone has something they can improve on, and the new year is the perfect opportunity for a fresh start and new goals.
That leads me to my first pickleball resolution: setting a goal every time I practice. Pickleball is a sport with so many things to think about – hit the ball here, bend my knees, move my feet, keep my paddle up, look for the erne, and so on. I can easily get overwhelmed by all the thoughts. But over the past year, I’ve learned that the best way to quiet that noise is to choose one goal for each practice session – specifically, a goal that’s achievable.
Having a single focus gives you something to dial in on, and it creates a real sense of accomplishment and control. Too often, we tie our identity and success to winning or losing. Through goal setting, we can feel successful after every practice or rec session, regardless of the outcome. Good goals might be, “Today I’m going to work on taking dinks out of the air,” or “Today I’m going to focus on positive self-talk.” These are great goals because they’re within your control. A goal like “I’m going to win all my matches” isn’t, because so much of that is out of your hands.
My second pickleball resolution is to get into the gym three to four times a week for strength training. I already play a lot of pickleball and get plenty of cardio, but I want to build a consistent strength routine to create a stronger, more durable body. Getting stronger won’t just improve my everyday life—it will directly improve my pickleball game. More strength means more power on my shots, better support when getting low at the kitchen line, and an overall better feeling of fitness. Plus, getting into the gym is a great way to feel good and boost those positive endorphins.
2025 was an awesome year, and I’m really looking forward to 2026. I’m excited to continue growing the Fun Pickleball brand and spreading the joy of pickleball with all of you. I’m excited to compete on the PPA Tour, and to make more memories with Nick and the rest of my family. I truly believe 2026 is going to be a great year, and I wish you all the best in whatever goals and endeavors you choose to pursue.
